For British Telecommunications Plc’s Highlands and Islands Project, Port Hill Marine Ltd provided BT with Fisheries Liaison Officers and Marine Mammal Observers. This sizeable project involved a highly complex and extensive cable lay. It was part of the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband Scheme which brought superfast broadband to thousands of locations in Scotland’s Highlands and Islands. From the Orkney Islands in the North of Scotland to the Firth of Clyde in the South, Orange Marine installed over 250 miles of fibre-optic cables. A record-breaking 20 separate seabed crossings and 40 beach-joints also featured in this highly challenging cable lay. In addition, Port Hill Marine Ltd has recently completed all Fisheries Liaisons for a further two cables in the Firth of Clyde next year.
